Went on my usual river walk again on Sunday after skipping a week to get my first tattoo with an old friend from work. It was in the high 80’s which is really unusual for Oregon, or at least it was until recently. I ran across another derelict train with more lumber. I’m really hoping that one of these days there is something more interesting like hazardous chemicals or drugs or something. I talked to the man who lives in the cave above the railroad tracks and he has gotten progressively more incoherent since I first met him more than a year ago. I suppose living in the wild and doing hard drugs will do that, unfortunately. As I was walking away he started yelling at me and all I could make out was “watch out, man, there are deep-state operatives all up and down here”. I wasn’t sure what to do with that information so I just gave him a thumbs up and kept walking.
The island I walk to was very dried out and looking a little on the sad side. There was a serious wind storm recently that knocked down some trees and flattened a bunch of the brush. There are lots of blue-tailed lizards there and they are starting to go underground. I noticed a bunch of small holes on the edge of the trail that means they’re starting to burrow underground again. It was almost enough to set off my trypophobia. I’m really looking forward to the winter coming back. Walking along the river in the cold with the night sky above is amazing. I can’t wait to do some star shots.
